Making 3rd party touring caravan insurance compulsory may sound ridiculous. The main reason for this may be because 3rd party cover, in respect of a caravan, is automatically covered under a standard motor car insurance policy whilst being towed. The touring caravan may be at its highest risk whilst towing but there are also many other 3rd party risks that would not be covered if you haven’t purchased touring caravan insurance.
However unlikely the risk may be, you never know what kind of circumstance may arise in which you would not want to be without touring caravan insurance. For example, you could be moving your touring caravan into position on a pitch, below that pitch there may be a slight slope and you could possibly lose control of your caravan, causing it to roll down the hill and smash into another caravan. I certainly wouldn’t want to be in that situation without 3rd party touring caravan insurance.
This could be one of the many benefits of making 3rd party touring caravan insurance compulsory. This would not only be beneficial for touring caravan insurance companies but also for caravan owners and any 3rd party risks. How would you feel if another, unhitched caravan came plowing into any of your belongings, or at the very worst, a member of your family.
In my opinion, I think compulsory 3rd party touring caravan insurance is a must as many risks would be covered and therefore would cause less problems for caravan owners and even those who do not own a caravan.
