Touring Caravans: The Green Issue

Whilst the media debates the effects of our “carbon footprint” in many areas of our lives, and the government bring in Lower Emission Zones in London, very few people have discussed the impact of other vehicles on the road. The National Caravan Council revealed that the area of Touring Caravans has been largely neglected but as there are now well over half a million on the road, The NCC have set up a website dedicated to the issue, www.greencaravanning.co.uk.

The site aims to educate the users of Touring Caravans in choosing the greenest trips comparing the number of grams of carbon per kilometer per passenger over a whole journey. This is especially important as there are well over 500,000 Touring Caravans on the road and it is estimated that 12% of the carbon footprint in the UK is related to recreation and leisure.

The process has also alerted Touring Caravan Insurance Companies, who are also trying to reduce the environmental hazards.
