Touring Caravan enthusiasts have worked hard to reduce the theft problem which the market has suffered from over the last ten years and most Companies will now tell you that Theft claims against their Touring Caravan Insurance Policies are continuing to decrease every year.

However Touring Caravan Insurance Companies are beginning to see a new trend which threatens to increase Touring Caravan Insurance Premiums if action is not taken to prevent these losses from occurring at the rate they are currently taking place.

What is this new problem?

Accidental Damage Claims.

Cover4Caravans has seen more £100,000 in claims being paid out on it’s Touring Caravan Insurance Policies during 2008.

The most common circumstances for an Accidental Damage claim on Touring Caravan Insurance is clients striking an immobile object such as gate posts, petrol pumps, concrete bollards, fences etc.

A lot of these accidents take place while the client is leaving their caravan storage site or home driveway.

Statistics show that this type of claim is not limited to the new Touring Caravan owner but seems to occur across caravanners of all levels of experience.

Cover4Caravans are going to begin work on make their Policyholders aware of this new trend as a little more care could start making all the difference.

After all who really wants to see their Touring Caravan Insurance Premiums increase when these types of claims are so easily avoided?

If you have any suggestions on how this awareness could be raised please contact Cover4Caravans by visiting their blog which can be found at www.cover4caravans.co.uk

Well it’s another weekend and I will be at the Dagenham game tomorrow against Darlington, and with snow forecasted I don’t think I will be going out on Sunday!

We have noticed an increase in enquiries this past week as the Touring Caravan season approaches. In readiness I will be attending the NEC Touring Caravan show in February to take a look round and get a feel for the market. With all the current doom and gloom I imagine many of you will be purchasing new Touring Caravans for that quick, easy get away from the rat race. February is shaping up to be a busy month as we are meeting with one of our panel of insurers next week for a review to make sure we are all geared up. I personally am really looking forward to the brighter weather, and not in the least due to the fact that I will become a Dad in July/August time. Am I crazy or what!

Don’t forget to order your stickers as they look really good.

As ever you can contact me if you have any queries.

Happy Touring!

Mike, my Cover4 Manager, and myself have just returned from one of our regular reviews with one of our Undewriters. As always the company was good, the food in the evening was great – shame we missed out on the tickets to see Forrest play Derby but you can’t have it all!

The Essex snow even followed us up the M1 but we battled our way home.

During our meeting we reviewed our claims during 2008 and we were shocked to find that it was not theft, fire or vandalism that cost us over £100,000 in claims on our Touring Caravan Insurance Book but accidental damage!

We then looked deeper into those stats and the majority of our accidental damage claims were caused by our customers hitting immobile objects with their Touring Caravan! Concrete Posts, gates, petrol pumps etc.

So in 2009 we are going to start running a campaign to encourage our Touring Caravan Customers to just take that little bit more care when they get their Caravans back out in 2009 – look twice, slow down and please avoid those gate posts!

More details to follow but if in the meantime if you have any ideas on how we cna increase the awareness of this please feel free to reply to this blog.

Have a cold but great weekend.

Richard
