I was lucky enough to work for 11 years at Fairweather Insurance Services Ltd who have a number of branches but back then the main office was in Ruislip Manor, Middlesex.

I owe an awful lot of my insurance knowledge to a great man – Robert Sykes.

Today I received some dreadful news that Robert had passed away on Wednesday evening at only 44 years of age.

We had many up’s and down’s and since my departure from the Company about 8 years ago we never really kept in as close a contact as our previous friendship deserved.

Robert was a great boss and a good friend and at this very sad time all I can do is pray that his family and friends can come to terms with the sad loss of Robert.

I can recall many moments but in particular I can remember the company “boy’s trip” to France when I was just 18 and the drinking and memories which we created between us on that trip!

How life can be so cruel is beyond me at times like these.

Thank you Robert for everything you taught me.

Richard

Thanks for all your kind words.

Only heard the sad news today. Haven't seen or spoken to Rob since I left Fairweather's getting on for 20 years ago, but still some very happy memories. Cheers to one of the good guys!

worked with rob at fairweather from the day it opened in 1984 to 1991 when i left to have my son adam who rob is godfather to. I was in deep shock when i heard about his sudden departure and my and my familys thoughts ar with his family. have worked with many people over the years but rob sykes is up there on a pedestal for being a kind generous person shairing his knowledge and helpfulness to the max. He will be sadly missed but never forgotten x x

Just wanted to say thank you for the above messages. They mean a lot to the family. Im going to miss my brother desperately. He wasnt just a brother but an awfully good friend as well. The funeral will be at Breakspear Crematorium on Weds 29th at 1.30. Family have requested no flowers but a donation to the RSPCA on Robs behalf. Thank you. Brian Sykes

Having worked with Robert over the last 6 months I quickly came to consider him one of my favourite clients - it was a pleasure to know such a kind, funny and warm man and my heart goes out to his friends and family at this terribly sad time.

I found out about Rob today, truly terrible news. I have known Rob for 15-20 years calling on Fairweather as an account manager for different insurance companies. He was one of the brokers I always enjoyed meeting. I got to know him well over the years and when we were looking for people to attend our corporate events Rob was one of the first names I'd think of because he was such good company. He was instrumental in growing Fairweather into a successful brokerage and he did it by hard work, being professional and a by being a really nice guy. He leaves a huge hole with family, friends and work. I am attending the funeral for our last 'meeting'. I hope the comments left here give some comfort to Rob's family, friends and colleagues. Phil

Guys, This is awful news. You will not know me, but I work for Aviva and Robert and I had a good working relationship for many years. I am unaware of the circustances following Robert's death as I just received a letter from Fairweather letting us know, but it come of great shock and sadness to me. Whilst we had an Underwriter to Broker relationship over a few years, we often shared a few jokes and talked about our personal lives. He always spoke of his wife and children and obviously thought the world of them and what they are achieving in their lives. I'm sure the funeral will celebrate the life he had and leave Robert, one of the nicest, professionalguys around to rest in peace. Peter

Richard, terrible news. I only found out about two hours ago, and was searching the internet for any more details. Came across this. Do you know when the funeral is, or do you have any contacts still at Fairweathers that I can pass on condolences through? I'm living in Dublin now, so won't be able to do anything in person. We had some good times back in the early 90's. A lot has happened since I left Fairweathers in 1996, but I always remember the laughs we all used to have, usuallly at each other's expenses! Jamie
