If you are a caravan owner, you’ll appreciate how important it is to cover your static or touring caravan with the most suitable insurance policy. Without cover behind you, if something happened, you may potentially stand to lose out financially. The good news is that with our range of affordable caravan insurance policies, you can rest assured that you have suitable protection for your caravan, backed up with over 60 years’ worth of experience in the caravan insurance industry.

So, what can caravan insurance do for you? Here is just some of the protection that can typically be found within some or all of our caravan insurance policies, providing you with peace of mind:

  • protection for your contents and belongings;
  • cover for your awnings and gas bottles (though storm damage for awnings will be subject to certain terms, conditions and restrictions – see further on for more information on this);
  • new for old replacement on your caravan;
  • public liability protection;
  • European protection for touring caravan owners;
  • Money towards a stay in alternative accommodation if yours is uninhabitable due to an insured risk happening;
  • Emergency removal of your caravan for repairs.

The importance of liability protection
We touched briefly on public liability insurance above, but it is important to say that liability protection can form an integral part of a caravan owner’s insurance policy. Liability insurance typically provides protection in the event of a claim being made against you by a third party.

For example, if you are a static caravan owner, a claim may come about as the result of a holidaymaker suffering an injury after having an accident in your caravan. Or, if you are a touring caravan owner, a claim may come around as the result of you damaging the property or vehicle of a third party whilst towing your caravan.
With public liability cover, the policy typically pays towards your legal costs, which otherwise you’d need to find out of your own pocket.

Other points to note
If you are looking to insure your static caravan, you might wish to check in the small print of your policy or in the summary of the policy for your static caravan to find out if the policy extends to the outer of your caravan. Typically, the policy includes cover for:

  • your contents and belongings;
  • the caravan itself.

Do note that some providers often do factor in that some owners install decking, patio, and fencing around their static caravan, and provide protection accordingly. If these items are insured and they are then subsequently damaged or destroyed, the policy typically pays out towards the cost of replacing them.

With awnings, usually they will need to have their own limit of insurance, which will be stated separately on the schedule of insurance. You will usually find that storm damage is covered but only if you are in the caravan when the awning is attached during a storm. if the awning is left up and you are away from the caravan, then storm damage would not be covered.

Touring caravan protection

Finally, travelling aboard! When looking for caravan insurance tourer cover, if you intend on travelling into Europe with your caravan, then European insurance or continental cover is essential. Without this, you typically have to stop at each border of each country you visit to arrange insurance. Many caravan insurance policies will offer European cover as standard, for up to a set amount of days. But as these can vary among providers, do make sure you know what you are getting for your money.
