To ensure that you get the most suitable caravan cover for you, there are a number of important considerations you need to take in to account when thinking about caravan insurance. Here we take a look at some of these below.

There’s not necessarily a priority to these – what’s important is that they are thought about at some stage in the process.

Getting the right insurance for your caravan

As a general rule, there are specific policies for those having static or touring caravans. Making sure that you have caravan insurance that’s appropriate for your caravan is a pretty basic step to get right.

Understand your usage

There may be some differences between caravan cover insurance policies depending upon your planned usage. If for example you have a tourer and you plan to take it overseas, this may mean that you have need of some special insurance or perhaps some policies will automatically include a specified number of days’ continental cover for destinations in the European Union.

Your insurer’s requirements

Ensure you understand what your obligations are to the insurer. These are things that you will need to fulfil in order to keep the caravan insurance valid and these may vary depending on who your caravan insurance provider is.

For example, if you have a touring caravan, your insurance policies may demand certain things of you with respect to the use of security devices. As an example, you may only be covered if your caravan is immobilised via a wheel clamp and a hitchlock when it is left unattended.

For static caravans, your policy may only be valid if your van is stationed on a formal site that has full services such as gas and electricity connected. Certain forms of your caravan insurance cover may also become invalid if you fail to undertake basic precautions when leaving your static home empty – such as failing to drain down water systems etc.

Getting professional input

It’s not unusual to find that the sheer volume of choice can be confusing and even intimidating. If you’re to avoid making serious and potentially expensive mistakes, speaking to people that know and understand the market may be useful if you’re to find the caravan cover that’s appropriate for you.

That’s where we can come in to help. We understand the motor home insurance; touring insurance; and static home insurance market and can help ensure that the right cover is found – cover that fits your pocket and gives you the peace of mind that comes with knowing you have the protection of good caravan insurance in place.
