Some static caravan site owners put so much pressure on caravan owners to buy their insurance from them, that unfortunately the latter may not even obtain any other static caravan insurance quotes. But given that static caravan park owners cannot force you to buy their cover, you may wish to consider obtaining independent quotes for static home insurance to see if you can snap up a more suitably priced deal!

Paying attention to detail
In a tough economic climate, the price may be an important factor in your decision to purchase caravan cover. However, not all policies are created equal, and it may be worth taking a moment to compare the details of the cover on offer.

Firstly, you may wish to consider the risks that are covered by your static caravan insurance quote. The following risks may typically be included in a static home insurance policy (though do note that not all insurers will offer all these elements of protection):

  • fire;
  • earthquake;
  • flood;
  • storm;
  • theft or attempted theft; and
  • vandalism.

Exclusions and limitations

Perhaps more important than what the policy does cover, you may wish to check out what it does not. Exclusions and limitations in a static caravan insurance quote provide the opportunity for you to compare how comprehensive the policy on offer is.

Exclusions may typically be more relevant when you are talking about the contents side of the caravan cover. Is there single item limit for what the insurer would pay out for one particular possession? If this figure is low, would your laptop or camera be covered?

What about if you let out your static home? You will need to get a static home insurance quote that allows for this. Not doing so could mean that any damage caused by tenants or loss suffered by them whilst using your static home may not be covered under your policy.

Likewise, you may wish to familiarise yourself with the terms and conditions involved in theft cover. Insurers may typically require evidence of forced entry or break in before they pay out for a theft claim.

What can you do about the price?

There are ways that you may be able to influence your static home insurance quote so that you get affordable cover:

  • fitting additional security measures like the latest locks and alarms. Both you and your insurer have an interest in making sure that your caravan is as difficult to burgle as possible, and the insurer may reward you for extra steps you take in addition to those that may be required by your policy;
  • siting your static home away from high flood risk areas;
  • caravan club membership. Are you a member of a caravan club? If so, let your caravan insurer know, because this may give you access to more competitive prices and result in a reduction to your static caravan insurance quote.
