It’s important to understand the nature of the insurance that protects your static caravan. The start point of that understanding is often when you get static caravan insurance quotes. Once you have got the ‘right’ quotes, you can then compare static insurance cover and see which policy gives you the most cost-effective protection.
However, some people may start off on the wrong foot and look for the ‘wrong’ type of cover – for example, they may get park home insurance quotes for their static.
Static caravan versus park homes
The difference between these two forms of accommodation has been known to sometimes cause confusion.
That’s unfortunate because typically the distinction between the two is fairly clear.
A static caravan is typically defined as a caravan that is located on a holiday caravan site and which, for the most part, is not regarded as being mobile. They are typically secure (often being jacked off their wheels) and are used for periods during the year for holiday and recreational purposes.
By contrast, a park home is located on a registered park home site that has full local authority permission to be used as a permanent dwelling place. The park home itself is typically occupied permanently, and as your normal place of residence.
There may, of course, sometimes be certain grey areas in these definitions and we will be only too happy to provide you with our advice if you are uncertain as to which of these two categories your particular accommodation comes into.
Static caravan insurance quotes and cover
So, what may static insurance cover? As a general guideline, this form of cover may provide you with protection against problems that affect the caravan itself, your contents, fixtures and fittings, plus some components of protection against the implications of being sued under third party liability laws.
Beyond that, to really understand what the policy is providing (and therefore what it is not providing) it is necessary to read the quotation and any supporting documentation very carefully.
Although the UK caravan insurance industry has done much over recent years to de-jargonise its documentation, you may still encounter some caravan insurance quotations that utilise terms or expressions which are unfamiliar to anyone not closely associated with the industry.
Once again, if you have encountered any expressions or language when getting static caravan insurance quotes which are less than clear, we will be only too pleased to explain in more detail what the expression or sentence means.
