The beginning of the year can be fairly gloomy and depressing, with the excitement of Christmas over and weeks of cold, wintry weather ahead. The subject of UK caravan insurance may not immediately appear to be one that is likely to dispel that gloom but it may be a good time of year to think about it.

Once the spring arrives, many of us may be far more focused on using our caravans than thinking about the paperwork behind them, so the winter months can perhaps be put to good use in that respect.

What is there to think about in terms of UK caravan insurance?

Perhaps the obvious thing is to take the opportunity to review your current insurance position. Even if it is not time for your annual renewal, perhaps you should be asking yourself questions such as:

  • is your existing policy still providing you with a breadth and depth of cover that is competitive when viewed against other options in the marketplace;
  • is your caravan and the way you use it, still in conformance with the terms and conditions of your caravan insurance policy (e.g. are you now using it to an annual mileage level that exceeds the level covered by your policy);
  • have you recently overhauled or enhanced your caravan, thereby increasing its value or the value of its contents, to an extent that may make your current cover inadequate;
  • have you done anything relating to the site of your caravan that may put your cover at risk (e.g. moving it to a site with a known history of flooding, where such risk is specifically excluded from cover by your policy);
  • inevitably, the obvious question – is your existing policy still cost-effective when compared to other options?

If you ask these questions, you may well come to conclusion that your existing caravan insurance policy is providing you with excellent, entirely suitable and cost-effective cover.

If, on the other hand, you reach a different conclusion, then it might be time to do something about it.

Being realistic, once the season is in full swing, many caravanners may not feel that they have sufficient time to ask questions of their current UK caravan insurance. So during these dark and dreary nights before the season starts, we may now have something to do!
