If you have a touring caravan insurance UK policy, you may think that you have all the required protection you need. That, however, may not quite be the full story.

Overseas attractions

Having touring caravan insurance UK cover may be fine – right up until you decide that you would like to experience some continental caravanning. If your touring caravan insurance does not provide cover for the use of your caravan outside of the UK, (ie continental cover) then you may be in some trouble.

Even if your caravan insurance does provide cover for use outside of the UK, you may still need to check it to ensure that:

  • it provides cover for continental use to a level of days per year that meets your plans for the period ahead;
  • if the policy also restricts continental driving to a maximum number of miles/km per year, then once again, you will need to be sure that your usage will not exceed the specified limits;
  • the term ‘continental cover’ may mean different things to different people, so you will need to be sure that your policy specifically covers the country or countries you plan to visit.

So, having touring caravan insurance UK cover is part of the story but if you are tempted to cross the Channel, then you may need to look at your insurance a little more closely.

Overseas caravanning – additional tips

If you have touring caravan insurance but have no intention of going outside of the UK, it might nevertheless be prudent to check to ensure that your policy does not restrict use to the mainland UK only.

If it does, you may need to clarify the position if you plan to visit locations such as the Scottish islands or Ireland etc.

Some caravan insurance (this may apply to both touring caravan insurance and motorhome insurance) may have special requirements in terms of authorised drivers once outside of the UK. That may include special conditions relating to aspects such as the minimum time a driver has held their driving licence and a minimum age.

Although perhaps less common, some policies may also apply different requirements in terms of permitted caravan locations when overseas as opposed to in the UK.

They may, for example, insist that touring caravans are parked up overnight only on approved and registered caravan sites.

So, if you have touring caravan insurance UK cover but you suspect that you may be heading across the water in the not too distant future, then making enquiries about continental cover may be a good idea.

Hurrah, the weekend is nigh and a busy week comes to an end.

The sun has been shining most of the week but today it seems brighter than normal – happy days do that to people.

The weekend sees lots of things that need doing and no doubt the sun will not come and play, but I really do not mind washing the white car in the rain – saves on the water.

Next week sees a busy week as normal with two days in London and a day off for my sons 4th birthday. Where does the time go? Very scarey.

The Caravan Insiurance team continue to have a great month and they still have 4 working days to go.

Have a great weekend and do your best to make it an awesome one.

We’ve won an Award! We are very proud to announce that Cover4Letproperty (www.cover4letproperty.co.uk) have won an award, read on for more details: -

We are proud to announce that we have just won an award for Best Landlord Insurer in the prestigious The Money Awards. Winning this award is real endorsement of what we do and we feel that it will further enhance trust with our clients. We always strive to offer the very best service and products that we can and to be rewarded in this way validates our ethos.

The Judges recognised that Cover4Letproperty offers a great value product backed by an exceptional service. They noted that our policies often offer above-the-norm levels of cover and we stood out because we do not exclude perils or risks that a landlord should expect to find as part of his standard policy. For example, malicious damage by tenants, subsidence etc.

 The Judging Panel said: “What really separates Cover4Letproperty from their competition is their exceptional levels of customer service, with a dedicated account handler being assigned at the point of quotation and throughout the whole life of the policy, meaning a truly personal service. We also were also impressed by Cover4Letproperty’s policy documentation which is clear and concise and the particular attention paid to an individual’s needs and requirements of their customers. The Directors of the Company work day to day in the business and are easily contactable, again highlighting how the company offers a personal touch.”

Well done us and to the Cover4letproperty team whose hard work and dedication to providing a truly personal service made this happen!

As we are now hopefully getting towards the end of winter, your thoughts may once again be turning towards the open road. That might also be an ideal time to take a quick checkpoint as to how you stand with respect to tourer caravan insurance.

If you already have tourer caravan insurance in place, then it may be worthwhile considering whether or not it is still providing a suitable and cost-effective solution to your caravan insurance needs.

That’s not to say that there is necessarily anything wrong with it. It may be that you have had your insurance for some time and you are, as such, relatively happy with it.

However, things change and this could apply with your caravan insurance too.

It may also be worth taking into account that it is not only caravan insurance that changes. It is perhaps possible that the way you use your caravan has changed significantly since you initially took out the policy.

Perhaps:

  • you may now take it over to the continent more frequently than you once did and so need more than the standard continental cover offered by some providers;
  • you are possibly using it more than you were a few years ago and as a consequence, your annual mileage has increased significantly;
  • you may have completely refurbished and re-equipped the interior with the effect that your contents are now more valuable than they once were and so you need to increase your caravan contents insurance cover;
  • one of your children may have passed their driving test and you now may wish to have them included on the policy.

The reason such changes are relevant is that they may mean that another policy may offer rather more suitable cover, given the changing circumstances, than your current policy.

So, it may make sense to periodically review your tourer caravan insurance against other options that may be open to you in the marketplace, or get in touch with us so we can help.

You may find, for example, that:

  • policies for things such as Hobby caravans are now rather more widely available than you will have seen previously – something that may be of interest you if you have a Hobby caravan or perhaps considering one for the future;
  • some caravan insurance may now include caravan contents cover on a new-for-old basis, as standard;
  • you may find today that policies offer increased scope for a reduction in premium cost if you take up some of the options available for discounts (e.g. by being a member of approved caravan association may see you enjoy caravan club insurance discounts);

The key point is that you typically will want peace of mind when using your touring caravan.

That peace of mind needs to include not only your confidence that your insurance is suitable and covering you against appropriate risks but also that your tourer caravan insurance is also continuing to offer a cost-effective solution. You may not be able to be sure of that unless you have a look at the marketplace.
