The search for cheap touring caravan insurance

If you have a touring caravan, you probably spend a fair amount of time trying to ensure that your costs are under control and as low as possible.  That may lead you into a search for cheap touring caravan insurance:

• if you do start to search for cheap touring caravan insurance, it might be advisable to keep in mind that what is cheap for someone else may not prove to be cheap for you in the long run – so it is typically wise to ensure that you evaluate potential policies based upon how they match your requirements rather than just their price;

• caravan insurers typically provide standard policies that service certain policyholder market segments, for example, one policy may offer very little by way of continental cover for people taking their caravans overseas on holiday whereas another policy may offer such cover as part of the basic policy;

• even within a component of cover, conditions may vary – using the above example, some policies may offer only very limited (in terms of mileage or durations) continental cover whereas others may be more substantive;

• another illustration arising in a different area, is that of cover for awnings – some policies may offer it (even if there are conditions of use attached) but same may not;

• even in terms of UK use, it’s advisable to look carefully at what a cheap touring caravan insurance policy is providing as, for example, some may only provide UK mainland cover which excludes areas such as the Scottish Islands;

• given that we’re now heading into winter again, you may wish to consider what, if anything, a policy will offer you by way of discounts if you securely and professionally store your caravan over the closed season (remember, some policies may require that all heating and water systems are drained down irrespective of where your caravan is stored);

• all insurance carries terms and conditions and as you might anticipate, some of these may be more in accordance with your requirements that others, for example, some policies may have conditions about the nature of caravan sites that can be used, which may not fit in with how you use your caravan;

• caravan insurers may also vary in terms of their acceptance of towing drivers, in terms of permissible ages and experience levels etc;

• so, understandable as it is to start looking for cheap touring caravan insurance, don’t forget to keep an eye on the cover you’ll actually be getting for your money.
