Park home insurance typically differs from that used for static caravans. Here are a few key points relating to it versus mobile caravan insurance:

  • a park home is typically seen by insurers to be a permanent dwelling that is more or less fixed in one permanent location;

  • to qualify for cover, the site may need to be formally registered with the local authorities and certified as being suitable for permanent habitation;

  • typically, your park home will be your normal permanent residence and you may, for example, be registered there on the local electoral roll – by contrast, static caravans are used occasionally for a few weeks per year for holidays and related purposes;

  • park home insurance and mobile caravan insurance cover are not typically interchangeable – it is important to insure caravan for the right form of usage;

  • some park home sites are located in very rural areas and some of those may be prone to flooding. If they are, you may find that you’re either paying a little more for your insurance or that your cover is subject to special terms and conditions;

  • your park home may have a higher level of furnishings than would typically be the case for some static caravans, therefore, it is important to ensure that your policy offers you appropriate cover – it may also be important to check whether or not the policy requires the site to be supervised or otherwise protected;

  • one similarity between the two forms of insurance is that in both cases, you may need to think about notifying your insurers if you plan to rent out your caravan/park home for commercial reasons – such use may not be covered by a typical policy;

  • the typical foundation of static caravan insurance cover is based around the idea that your caravan is used for just a few weeks per year for holidays whereas park homes are permanently occupied, however, in the case of park home cover, if you plan to leave your home unoccupied for more than typically 30 consecutive days, you may need to take out some additional cover as insurers may regard an unoccupied property to be at higher risk;

  • being careful and obtaining the most suitable park home insurance is only sensible – given the amount of money you may have tied up in your property.

Dear All

For our last Cover4 Team meeting and as an excercise to see what the Team thought about themselves and their Company, we were asked to come up with a “Jingle”.

Here I will post the results daily, I hope you like them!

Touring caravan insurance provides cover for, unsurprisingly, touring caravans!

Yet there are a few things that are worth grasping.

What is a touring caravan

Insurers typically regard these, as being towed accommodation caravans,

Caravans that are fixed in place (statics), places of permanent residence (park homes), have accommodation as a part of the chassis of the vehicle itself (motorhomes) and tents or folding accommodation (trailer tents or collapsible caravans) may all typically have their own forms of cover.

Constraints

Typical touring caravan insurance may have limitations in terms of a number of areas. It may be necessary to review your policy carefully to understand the specifics but it may include things such as:

  • how much, if any, continental touring cover is provided;

  • how many miles per annum are covered, as standard by the policy (limits may be specified both for UK and non-UK driving);

  • who can tow the vehicle (limits may apply both by age and experience levels of insured drivers);

  • where the caravan may be parked when in use – some policies may require that you only use formally designated caravan parking spaces or sites and some may go further and require that such sites are also fully serviced;

  • specific requirements in terms of the nature of belongs that you will be able to cover under the contents insurance – some high value items may not be covered (e.g. computers) and there may be maximum payout limits per article;

  • UK use – some policies may specifically say that cover only applies to the UK mainland, thereby excluding the Scottish Islands or Northern Ireland etc.

Cheap tourer insurance

Some policies may advertise prominently that they offer cheap touring caravan cover.

They may do but it might be prudent to ensure that you have carefully checked the policy’s cover, including the above areas, to ensure that you’ll be adequately protected. Some cheap cover that’s suitable for others may not prove to be suitable or cheap caravan cover for you.

Having appropriate touring caravan insurance may help you sleep a little more easily at night when thinking about the financial commitment your caravan consists of. It may therefore be sensible to take your time in selection and to get the insurance that’s most suitable for you.
