The idea of touring caravan insurance UK cover may sound to be relatively straightforward, however, there may be a few points worthy of a moment’s further investigation:

  • although as a legal entity the United Kingdom is well-defined, sometimes in terms of insurance cover the position may be a little more variable;
  • you may find that some insurance providers may regard a mixture of ferries plus caravans to be a little too risky and they may therefore restrict cover to the UK mainland only – this would both theoretically and perhaps literally exclude any offshore islands including places such as the Isle of Wight and the Scottish islands;
  • it may be particularly noteworthy that if touring caravan insurance UK cover is restricted to the mainland, that may also not allow you take your caravan to Northern Ireland;
  • perhaps more obviously, UK cover alone would mean that you would be unable to take your caravan over to continental Europe without obtaining additional extensions to your basic insurance – something that may be worth thinking about now even in the depths of winter, if you plan to be ready for the spring and summer;
  • of course, insurance for caravans online may be able to provide UK and continental European cover although the latter may be constrained by limits on the number of days or the total mileage covered;
  • some policies may also apply maximum mileage statements relating to your UK usage;
  • if you have whole UK cover, keep in mind that the UK shares a land border with one other country in the shape of the Republic of Ireland – if you are in Northern Ireland and plan to cross the border, it may be advisable to check your policy carefully to ensure that it offers UK and Eire cover and if it does not, to take out the appropriate additional cover extensions;
  • so touring caravan insurance UK cover may mean slightly different things to different insurance providers and the perennial advice must be to read your policy carefully so as to match it to your needs.

Monday, Monday. There is a song in there somewhere isn’t there?

What a sunny weekend, a real reminder that the caravan season is about to descend upon us all. We have chosen a local Kennel for the dog – that was harder than choosing the boys pre-school. We have subsequently booked to spend a week with my Brothers at Park Holidays Golden Sands resort down in Dawlish. We love the Torquay area and especially looking forward to taking my boys to the village of Cockingotn – one of my most favourite places in the UK.

The week ahead is crammed full of meetings and some School stuff as well – we have a Finance Committee meeting late this afternoon – certainly makes a welcome change from the Business World.

We have settled nicely into the new office and it is fast becoming home.

This week should see a video blog appear so watch this space!

We have booked tickets to see Watford play away at West Ham. I was gobsmacked to have to pay £32 a ticket. I shall never maon about the prices of tickets at Watford again. I do hope we can pay back the 4 nil thrashing they gave us on the opening home game of this season!

Have a great day.

Richard

Here are a few thoughts as to how you may be able to keep down the cost of your touring caravans insurance:

  • annual mileages – some policies may have a pricing structure that relates to your estimated annual mileage. If, therefore, you use your caravan more locally and less frequently during the year, you may be able to reduce the cost of your insurance;
  • security – the providers of touring caravans insurance may welcome indications that you are taking your responsibilities seriously by fitting additional security devices such as trackers and they may in some cases reward this through discounts (note that some policies may require the use of things such as hitchlocks and wheel clamps as a mandatory component of their cover);
  • overseas use – some policies may provide only UK cover whereas others may come with extensive continental cover as standard. Therefore, if you have no plans to take your touring caravan outside of the UK it may make sense to look for a policy that does not require you pay for cover you do not need;
  • towing driver ages – you may find that some insurance policies may not exactly welcome young and/or inexperienced drivers towing the caravan and you may be faced with a higher premium if you try to cover them;
  • parking sites – although perhaps more commonly associated with static holiday caravan insurance, some touring policies may require a higher premium if you park your caravan as and where you wish, whereas if you agree to only park in authorised formally constituted caravan parks, you may see an associated reduction in premium (once again, some policies may make this a mandatory condition);
  • winter storage – at this time of year, some caravan owners park up their caravans for the winter season and some policies may offer you a reduction in the premium if you agree to park your caravan in a secure facility rather than at or around your own home;
  • general parking – the price of your caravan insurance cover may be reduced if you are able to park your caravan off-road when not in use rather than on the public road;
  • advice – there may be other opportunities for saving money on your touring caravans insurance and we will be happy to offer you further advice.
