Based upon our experience, here are some key things that you may wish to look for when you are reviewing static caravan insurance quotes.

Your use versus the policy’s cover

Remember that a static caravan may typically be defined by policies to be somewhere that you occasionally use during the year for recreational purposes.

If you plan to occupy your caravan for extended periods then you may need to look for specific cover for those circumstances.  That may be residential park home insurance or it may be another form of cover – depending upon your exact circumstances.

Pitch requirements

Some policies may require you to take very specific measures to ensure that your caravan is securely anchored.  That may include things such as ensuring that it is completely jacked off its wheels.

Site requirements

You may find that policies typically refer to certain characteristics of qualifying sites, although they may vary in terms of their specific requirements.

For example, some may require that your site has permanent security related supervision.

Flood protection

Given the growing concerns over global warming and its potential affects on low-lying areas of the UK, some locations may be formally designated as being at risk from either river or coastal flooding.

Some policies may apply special conditions and requirements to such locations and some policies may not cover them at all.

Site owner’s insurance policies

You may find that some site owners are eager to push their own insurance cover.

It may be advisable to review it as critically as you would any policy you had found yourself on the open insurance marketplace.

Note that site owners may have no right to insist that you purchase their insurance though they may be entitled to ask to see evidence that you are adequately covered for third party liability risks.

New for old cover

This is an area where policies may differ significantly from each other.

What may be suitable for your situation may depend upon many factors including the age of your caravan.

Yet given the relatively high value of caravans when they are new or just a few years old, it may be advisable to look closely at any static caravan insurance quotes to check what they will offer in this area.

“Staff who answered call, very helpful. Online enquiry quick and information attached appropriate. Quick and easy to arrange. Already recommend Cover4, to other caravan owners on the site, and have discussed the excellent service with the sales staff on site, as Cover4 is approximatly £50 cheaper than what the site offers.”

It is always a struggle returning from a week off. We had a lovely time down at Park Holidays’ Golden Sands site in Dawlish Warren. The Static we stayed in was great – plenty of room for the 4 of us and the caravan was clean and well furnished. We had heating in each room and we had already decided to tak our own duvets as we knew the April nights were likely to be very cold!

I am a big fan of anything that is well managed and well run and the site was great. The food in the club house was great value and the staff were friendly. I even had a few games of Bingo and actually enjoyed myself. Did I win? Not a chance!

The indoor and outdoor swimming pools were great and to the excitment of my two boys the outdoor part of the pool was also open and they loved the extremes of temperature!

The life guards on duty made you feel safe and also did not kill the fun – they worked to a real world set of Health & Safety rules which is rare to come across this day and age!

The area is well known to us and we enjoyed days out at the beach, Crealy’s Adventure Park, Cockington Village, Paignton Zoo and the local castle.

We had a wonderful dinner at the nearby Smugglers Inn and the carvery there was just simply belly filling! I certainly have to come back and try and go on a strict diet!

The pup survived her first stay in the kennels and I think we all had a well earned breack from each other!

As you will know – we are experts in Caravan Insurance – whether it be your Static or Tourers – this is because we enjoy the same passion as you. Simple as that.

A big thank you to Park Holidays and the weather man as we had mostly dry and sunny days!

Have fun.

Richard

If you are looking for static caravan insurance, compare a number of options alongside each other and you may end up with a pleasant surprise.

Why?

The automatic renewal tendency

Not all of us enjoy reading through insurance quotations and lists of cover.

Sometimes the temptation to simply renew our existing caravan cover, without really thinking about it, may be almost overpowering.

Yet the reality of life is that your existing policy may or may not be the optimum solution for your requirements and you are never likely to know one way or another until you decide to think about your static caravan insurance cover, compare it with another option and see what the results are telling you.

Site owner’s insurance

This is another temptation.

Some site owners may offer their own insurance for static caravan cover and strongly urge you to take it.

This may appear to be a relatively convenient option and the cover they offer may indeed be appropriate, however, once again you may not be able to be sure that that is the case unless you make the effort to compare it to other options.

Understandably, for commercial reasons, some site owners may be keen to put forward their own cover.  Whilst they may have a perfect right to require that you be adequately insured, they may typically have no corresponding right to insist that you use their insurance as opposed to your own cover.

The differences in cover

It may be worth keeping in mind that different policies may contain different levels of cover and different exclusions etc.

It may be advisable to look and see whether an individual policy offers:

  • adequate protection for third party liability – if you are successfully sued, courts may award truly massive sums against you and it may be important to know that you will be covered through your policy;
  • flooding cover – the extent to which this risk is covered may vary significantly from one policy to another;
  • site requirements – some policies may be very demanding with regard to the facilities that your site must have if cover is to remain in force.  That may be perfectly reasonable but if your site does not comply, then the policy may not prove to be suitable for you.

While you are looking at your static caravan insurance, compare it only against other similar policies.  Remember that if you are living in your caravan on a permanent basis, static caravan insurance may typically not be suitable or offer appropriate protection.  You may need to seek alternative forms of cover including possibly park home insurance.
